@Grace.allovertheplace : That’s a good question, for which you can find clues as to the answer in various developments around the world. There will come a point, as the sanctions are finally biting down, when Putin has less than nothing to show for all the sacrifices his oligarchs and his people have made. And that point will be stark, round about when he has less Ukrainian soil under his control than he started out with in February last year. China seems to be quietly moving Russia toward becoming a smaller, vassal state, reliant upon their support just to stay cohesive, in the manner of North Korea. And you will see a concomitant move toward nuttier rhetoric and increased militarisation of schools, as various swathes of southern and eastern Russia break away from Moscow’s waning power, seeing a brighter future under the protective wing of China’s industrial powerhouse: a China that is DESPERATE for young people and an increase in its population: a China that has already begun changing its official maps to show Mandarin names for places and regions that are currently still part of the Russian, “Federation.” While Russia will not be able to seal its borders in the hermetic manner of North Korea, with their straight line across the 38th parallel and the deep blue sea around everything else, making Russian security a bigger headache for whatever government stands in a future Russia, they seem destined to shrink down to a manageable size for the world to be in a position to trade nukes for sanctions relief. Getting the last few nukes will be the tricky bit, but it will be a feather in the cap of whatever coalition or president who manages it. That’s my optimistic guess. Don’t ask me about my cynical guesses.
