  3. Yes, I grew up watching that popular comedy, Dad’s Army, in Britain. It’s so good and was so popular because of the element of drama that underlay all the gags. These mismatched, not very competent people, gruffly protecting their own dignity in undignified situations, and competing with one another for, “authority,” is a befitting simile. People from the every day street, stuffed into ill fitting uniforms, making it up as they go along, sounds about right for the Russian army. Except, where the Home Guard of the TV show were charming and funny, the Russians were thieving, rapists and murderers.

  4. I’ve told you many times before that, “you keep me sane,” Jake. I wasn’t being glib. Now you’ve heard it from someone in far more dire need of sanity than I. I hope that sinks in? Because I’ve seen how you suffer at the atrocities committed by Russians against Ukrainians, and that has worried me. I hope you take good care of yourself and take in these positives. What you do is invaluable to people. Like people getting access to The BBC World Service during World War Two. Thank you, Jake.

Now that I’ve seen you, and heard you speak; and because of the great store I put in education as a vocation, and now that I have more than just a fleeting glimpse from one of the multiple ads that Audible inundates me with, but a sense of you as a compassionate person (and a fan of Dad’s Army, which recommends you to any decent Brit 😉) I’m really looking forward to your words supplementing my walks with my dog, Ben.
