@alexsin4821 : Jake is generally very careful to avoid getting into the hornet’s nest of the divisive American political landscape, (I hope he won’t mind me speaking for him, here?) though followers of his work can discern that he comes from a place of putting country before party politics and his love of democracy is why he’s here, doing this. So, if you’re hoping for a partisan takedown of any particular characters in the chamber during this speech, I think you’re barking up the wrong tree.
However, I hasten to add that I do NOT assume that this is what you’re seeking. I too would be interested to hear an impartial discussion on what it means to have such a bipartisan chamber (particularly at Christmas; having something of a, “Christmas miracle,” flavour to the whole proceedings to see such unity between Reps and Dems on ANY issue) and what the implications of that are for the future, as Ukraine turns from war to reconstruction, once the Crimea is set free? Jake has discussed the practical side of the recent midterms, doing so in terms of whether support for Ukrainian relief and military packages will be helped or hindered. And his analysis was most concise (unlike my comment; sorry for that😉).
He does have a lot to offer in this area, but he is rightly careful to keep his discussions fact based and as, “apolitical,” as humanly possible. After all, most of the money he makes from his efforts go to Ukraine (you can check out his recent video identifying some of the charities that will safely get your contributions to the Ukrainian war effort, or to civilian relief charities) goes to charity. He would not provoke supporters from either side of the isle into leaving his channel unnecessarily, by criticising individuals in Senate or Congress, without a very good reason.
I’m sure you get my gist? . . .

@SteveWalkey : In a very real sense, this war is actually World War Three (by other means) being fought on the battlefield of Ukraine in practical terms, but also in the arena of our politician’s offices, diplomat’s postings, business execs board rooms and even in our living rooms. We have all been forced to address the question, “What price freedom?” in our individual and collective ways, as we’re ALL contributing; either by paying more for our fuel, our heating, the cost of food, or by our direct involvement through campaigning, contributing to charities, even volunteering to go there and fight.
Whether deliberately or incidentally, every individual one of us who earns an income of any kind, or is dependant upon a bread winner, anywhere in the free world, is contributing to the battle for freedom by paying at least some real price for this war.
Make no mistake, if Putin had not invaded Ukraine, our inflation, fuel crises and world wide economic downturn would not be occurring today. Just think about that? Putin has destabilised the entire planet and must pay the price for doing so. If he doesn’t, the world will remain under the threat of extortion for the rest of time.
And if you’re still not convinced that you have a dog in this fight (the rhetorical, “you,” in this case) then need I mention that the mere threat of using nuclear weapons in anger, even when it’s clear that no military advantage can be gained by such a wantonly spiteful act of suicidal idiocy, puts every living human at the discussion table with a legitimate stake in the outcome.
This is the World War Three that comes in the age of potential nuclear annihilation, with unstoppable hypersonic missiles at the disposal of the main protagonists. This is the WWIII that we get when Putin knows that the MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) scenario has never been more real. The WWIII we get when Putin could not attack his real target, but thought he could weaken NATO and thereby weaken America, whilst enriching his own country with Ukraine’s rare and precious resources. It’s the WWIII we get when the protagonists simply cannot declare war upon each other because of a hair trigger that would end us all.
This is the endgame for Putin and he knows it. And it is the moment of victory for the free west, that is ours to lose if we do anything clumsy or fumble the ball just as Ukraine crosses the finishing line (if you’ll forgive my mixed metaphors?) which makes it very much like that old joke, “It’s not much of a war, but it’s the only one we’ve got.” In this case, it’s not much of a World War Three, but it’s the only one we dare afford! . . .
It is, “Our War,” as much as anyone’s. We are all in this one and there’s no off ramp, so we MUST see it through to the end. And people like you and me must keep the pressure on our politicians to give Ukraine much better defence systems and weapons, as we have the capability to render all of Russia’s missiles obsolete on the conventional battlefield, yet we’ve only just started offering them to Zelensky!
You have a dog in this fight and it’s as legitimate as anyone else’s, saving a Ukrainians’. After all, you’re paying for it. Anyone who tells you different either doesn’t get it, or is a Russian.
Merry Christmas and, Slava Ukraine. 🇺🇦🎄✌️
