People NEED to look up, “The Milgram Electric Shock Experiment,” either here, or on their search engines. A stunning case of, “The computer says no.” A civil, “servant,” will commit quite OBVIOUSLY morally reprehensible acts on another human being because, “the paperwork is in order,” or, “the authoritative man with a clip board tells him to,” or because, “The warrant says so,” or perhaps because, “I was only following orders.”
The Milgram Experiment proved that people will hand over, “responsibility,” for their own actions, much more eagerly than any of us would like to think, simply to be SEEN to be following the rule book. It takes an especially assertive or well trained individual to stop and THINK before acting. They also showed, as these circumstances illustrate, that once the ball starts rolling, when more and more people get caught up in it, handing off their own culpability to, “the system,” the harder it is to stop the injustices from being carried out. This is because you now have a bunch of people who have all taken part and who will act in concert to, “justify,” their own actions in a silent, unspoken, contract.
Note: The experiment was initiated to gain an insight into HOW it was that otherwise decent, upstanding citizens could commit atrocities upon their fellow human beings in the concentration camps of WWII. That is where this path leads.
