I don’t remember what YEAR I opened my last bank account, let alone the DAY! These sods seem to forget who is doing whom the FAVOUR here! I am letting them make money from MY MONEY, and I should NEVER have to go cap in hand and answer a bunch of invasive security questions as if I was a suspect being cross examined by MI5, when I should be entitled to FULL UNFETTERED ACCESS to my OWN MONEY at ANY time.
And, as you say, it is these ridiculous procedures that make it possible for fraudsters to operate AND make people less inclined to report crimes, because they don’t want to be put through the emotional ringer and waste so much of their precious time.
The next time you ask for someone’s name, you need to insist that you are entitled BY LAW to have sufficient identification of the person calling you. Yet, there is confusion about what that means. They may well withhold their real name, but you should be given sufficient information to identify where they are calling from, and who they are, so they can be identified at a later time, should the need arise. And it is precisely that ACCOUNTABILITY that they are wilfully avoiding, yet which is enshrined in law. I NEVER let them get away with that.
You must, by law, be able to identify the individual or you can break contact and there will, according to law, be no negative consequence to you for so doing.
