It’s abhorrent. Labour always seems to find a way to pull defeat out of the jaws of victory. What stronger signal could they possibly send to voters that they cannot be trusted and their words are meaningless when the real test of action comes, than to pick out one of the most hated and distrusted minorities in Britain, the bankers, and give them unlimited personal profits? What an abject betrayal of Starmer’s fine words, his expressed concerns for individuals and his rebuking of the Tory benches for laughing at his pleas on their behalf, only to be the one wielding the knife.
