  1. No, I don’t think it’s acceptable. But, I also think this is quite deliberate. Same with the NHS. Everyone despairing that essential services are not working and the organisations themselves are no longer fit for purpose is the classic Tory playbook for full privatisation: Run it all into the ground; give the public the strong perception that there are no solutions within the grasp of government; hand it all over to the private sector, via a new bill that makes broad, sweeping promises of radical improvements but which actually further deepens the poverty gap because all services become available and efficient, but only for those willing to pay for them. The Tories have been attempting this for years. And they’re seizing upon the abject chaos they’ve created in the wake of an incompetently handled Brexit, to get it all in by the back door. It’s as sinister as it sounds. Ten years from now, I will not get any satisfaction from saying, “I told you so.” But I’ll say it anyway, simply because of that 1% remaining in my soul that hasn’t completely given up on humanity and still believes we’re capable of learning lessons collectively without the need for a world war to force a little perspective into our recalcitrant heads.
