I also note that nothing has better crystallised the character of Tory politicians than their recent examples of how they behave in defeat. From Boris and Nadine, to Reese Mogg and Truss: not ONE of them has had the SLIGHTEST good grace. Each one has blamed, “conspiracies,” and flatly refused their own RESPONSIBILITY. Time after time in recent bye-bye-elections we’ve seen the Tory candidates wait just long enough to find out they’ve lost and then they storm out without waiting for the result to be officially announced. Not a WORD of thanks for all the people who worked so hard on their campaigns to put them in with a chance. Not a single word about actual, “politics.” NOTHING. They’ve already fled the school or sports centre, while their opponents are making their acceptance speeches. We have a generation of Trumpian, poor loser, thin skinned, entitled CHILDREN in the Tory elite right now. And they’re running the country!!!???

It has ceased to surprise me that people like Truss can be so mendacious, selfish and wilfully destructive of the very institutions upon which we rely for our democratic process. Is she so clinically thick that she cannot see what her casual abuse does to the country? Is she so deranged that she, “believes,” her own fantasies? Imagine you’re watching the Wimbledon Tennis finals and, by some strange quirk of fate, the star British player pulls out of the match and is replaced by a random person in the audience. And when that random person is soundly thrashed, as all expected, in a humiliating defeat that the entire world watched on live services, she does not accept the reality that everyone else witnessed, but blames the umpire, the ball boys and ball girls, her coach, and her opponent’s trainers, of all conspiring against her in a conspiracy she dubbed, “the deep state.” These last years have been like that.
