You are a, “Brooklyn weirdo,” for whom I have very much, “acquired the taste.” I will follow the websites, donate money, subscribe to the required people, sign petitions, you name it. Please let us know how your viewers outside of America can best help?
As I said in my last comment, it is just the reality now, if policies empower consumers in America, the rest of the world will find it way easier to follow suit since, between them, Apple, Microsoft, Tesla (perhaps to a lesser extent lately?) and so many giant American Corporations OWN most of the world and most of the access to lawmakers.
I will stay alert for these issues wherever they come up, as you said. I just wish I could do more.
Again, THANK YOU. I admire your cause and you.

What a superb creation! How can I help?
I will support this in any way I can. My pro-tip would be, rather than stressing what it’s not; rants, rudeness, cruel or illegal commentary, (all stuff that defensive businesses will focus on) stress what it is: Professionalised, clear, coordinated, categorised, factual, distinguishing between demonstrable facts and unproved personal experiences, giving access to personal reviews whilst clearly stating what they are, and also offering follow up information such as court records, ombudsman findings, etc.
That dichotomy you’re pointing to is (to me) simply about categorising. It sounds very much like you are developing your policies positively with these things in mind.
My suggestion would be to have a published policy about how you work, one that evolves over time - and clearly states that it will - and, perhaps, a constitution which states your ultimate goals.
For example, are you hopeful that such a database would pressure governments to create departments that coordinate and pursue bad businesses in the way you collate information? Do you want an independant resource for protecting consumer interests? Do you just want a reliable resource for everyone to use, so they can check on business before spending their money?
Additionally, have you spoken to Which? Magazine? If you are based in Britain, I can envisage countless possibilities for a fruitful collaboration there?
I don’t doubt that you will have already addressed almost all, if not all, of the issues I’ve raised here with yourself and your colleagues, Kieth. But, I just get excited about the possibilities for such projects and the benefits that the consumer stands to gain in the long run.
Do you have a YouTube channel? If not, you should definitely consider setting one up under the name of the website/organisation itself. Even if it starts with little more than weekly updates about how the project is going, what you need, successes and failures, and maybe addressing one specific topic of the week, each week?
Wishing you every success, I will take a look at your web resources and support in any way I can. That won’t be much, but collectively, we’re mighty. Godspeed, Keith.

These Senators and Congresspeople need to campaign for, “Right to OWN,” not right to repair. The right to repair comes automatically with full and complete OWNERSHIP. When it’s yours you can modify it, reverse engineer it, change it, break it, REPAIR it, blow it TF up! With NO fear of consequence or negative recourse.
I’m a Brit, but as I’ve said before, if it happens in major American industries, there’s way more chance it can happen in the industries of little countries like mine, since America (like it or not) sets the world standard. That, “shift in culture,” starts in America.
So, working on that principle, “If I stop my brother from getting screwed, I too one day, may stop myself from getting screwed.” I have no, “rights,” in your country, but a letter to your representatives emailed from Britain, may well get someone’s attention? If for no other reason than it may surprise them to see that even the British are aware of the issue and disgusted by it, since it, “demoralises,” soldiers and could easily cost lives?
Since I’m an outsider, I’ll pick the politicians I don’t know so well (I already know that Elizabeth Warren doesn’t need convincing on this issue) because I know how to make myself sound, “influential,” and how to drop hints at having, “contacts,” in their area.
The terms, “fraud, waste and abuse,” and, “freedom,” will appear in my correspondence. And I will stick to the rule of brevity being the key to good communication (unlike this comment here) since the shorter and clearer the message, the better, so long as it contains the key points.
Thank you for your contributions to society, my friend. You are doing God’s work.

“If she or he [insert politician here] knew about this, she or he would do something about it, for us.” The next time someone says that to you, direct them to the countless videos coming out of Russia on a daily basis: freezing troops without weapons, mothers grieving for missing sons, persecuted soldiers on the front lines being used for meat wave attacks . . .
EVERY SINGLE DAY these groups of desperate people make these videos, praying they will go over the heads of the people issuing the orders and reach Putin, “because, if HE KNEW THIS he would save us!” They have no idea that it was Putin’s idea! They can’t see that, if their videos actually were to go viral and get traction on the political scene in Moscow, they would all get rubbed out within the week! They identify themselves as targets!
It genuinely scares me to see that kind of thinking taking hold in the free world.
Thank you for this important discussion. I hope people learned something from it too. And, if you can use the assistance of a disabled Brit (international efforts are what’s called for sometimes) I am at your service. I have limits, due to my health, but I am sincere.

@McGuyverTech : Yeah, that’s because you don’t own it, then. You own bits of metal and plastic but they are retaining ownership of the software or whatever it takes to run it. The right to fully, comprehensively, OWN what you pay for would solve that problem. There’s a risk that we could wind up talking at crossed purposes here, since you are talking about, “definitions,” whereas I am saying, “Define it all as bought, paid for: thus owned.”
It won’t cost them extra to include the schematics in the paperwork they print the warrantee, safety warnings and other blurb they put in the box (in 10 different languages) when you purchase an item new. Your ownership will prohibit their withholding of any information pertaining to maintenance, upkeep and repair of your property . . . IF the laws are amended correctly, that is.

Can someone explain to me why this, “Right To Repair,” campaign should not be a, “Right To Own,” campaign? And why the right to OWN a thing would not automatically cover one’s right to repair that thing?
We’re talking about the right to own not just that, “thing,” but ALL of it; including the intellectual rights to that object or software, piece of entertainment, or whatever, so that it is YOURS upon, “purchase!” Then, Nintendo wouldn’t have the right to remotely, “brick,” your system or force you to lose the right to sue them, merely by signing the end user agreement, in order to get it to work AT ALL. Microsoft and other software producers would not be allowed to dictate what programs you mess with on your OWN computer, or parts you replace or alter, since it is YOUR PROPERTY. And it would apply equally to the military and ALL of their equipment.
And, before you start saying, “But what about copyright and the hard work of others?” There are ALREADY countless draconian laws that prevent people from reproducing other people’s work, invading their privacy, stealing their patents, etc! And they ALL have more than enough legal clout to enforce their own protections!
If you can be allowed to FULLY, “own,” what you, “purchase,” then you are entitled to do whatever the heck you like with it, so long as you don’t do any harm or infringe the rights of others. Why not???

The entire world is turning into a sewer of immoral chisellers. We are all turning each other angry, feeling disempowered, resentful, untrusting and bitter.
If we carry on like this, with the most egregious examples being at the very top of society, spilling this shite down onto the upturned faces of anyone stupid enough to look up to them, we will deserve our downfall.
I literally thank GOD that people like you, Louis, are around. You are setting one of the far too few examples that we all should follow: not just for standing up to these pr*#ks, but your authentic outrage at this kind of erosion of people’s basic rights. You speak my heart and galvanise me into action; especially on behalf of others.
Thank you, Louis. I will click the link.

Does Sony get to redefine English? “Words no longer mean what they actually mean”??? Well, maybe the next time I give them my money I will tell them about my new TOS in which I redefined the term, “money,” as, “contempt.”
There have to be basic laws that merely need to be used, surely? You cannot just redefine the meaning of words!?
Your, “corner of the world,” is the whole world, though. Which is pretty much what you’re telling us. You cannot clean up one corner alone, since that would give every other crook an advantage over the honest businesses who practice good business in one place because they have no choice and cannot afford to relocate. The problem just moves. The effort has to be national and international, as far as humanly possible.
