  1. Be honest, America? If trump convinced his followers that he was no longer a racist (a thought experiment, not a physical possibility) the vast majority of his support would melt away, over night. The types that scream at trump’s rallies, and threaten the press, and famously beat up elderly protestors . . . They would all reject trump. We owe it to American Heroes, like John Lewis, to see this thing through to the end. ✌️

That’s what it means to defeat racism. It’s not for nothing that the most racist parts of America are also the most poorly educated, economically disadvantaged, malnourished, and least successful states in the land; for everyone who lives there, whatever their color is . . .

  11. Anel Debique : What you said to Cameron was Gold. Seriously. A life lesson. When people are leaders, from church leaders to politicians, or in any profession, note which way they lead you. If they lead, “Toward,” a positive goal, they’re usually worth listening to. It’s the ones leading you, “Away,” from things that are inherently DANGEROUS. Whether it’s, “against gays, abortion, migration,” or anything else they’re, “against,” they have a damaging agenda. People who lead TOWARD a bright future, “building,” things, like an economy, better education, improved justice, etc. What’s not to like about that? And, that rule of thumb has guided me throughout my life. Glad you said it ✌️👍

  12. Dixie flatline : Well said. It’s a technique that Putin passed on to trump, successfully used in Russia, by Putin himself and Stalin, from whom Putin learned it. The idea is not to be, “plausible.” Quite the opposite. There’s no better demonstration of raw power than to (for example) deny the moon exists, and then have your cult screaming, “There’s no moon!” at a rally, and all tweet it, as fact, the next day, while, “respectable,” news outlets keep driving the point home. Right now, it’s only disconcerting. And that’s because of the great debt we owe to real news channels for pushing back against the lies and challenging authority (which is their job) and holding the administration to account. But, imagine just how SPINE TINGLINGLY CHILLING it would be, if ALL the news outlets agreed? Like in Stalin’s Russia? And then in Putin’s Russia? Imagine you read in your favourite paper, “The Moon Vanished,” headline? You look at it, see it’s there, but KNOW if you say that out loud, you are being, “disloyal,” to the party, or the the leader. THAT’S what it’s about. The Cultists chant trump’s lunatic assertions, enjoying the trolling of America, which makes them feel, “powerful,” in a way they never have before. And, to show that, “loyalty,” to their, “cause,” which is, at its heart, purely racism. But, if trump is still in power after the elections, for whatever reason, you’ll be astonished (or, perhaps you’ll expect it, like me?) at how FAST CNN and MSNBC are hit with a string of scandals, resignations, court battles, firings, etc, until CNN comes under the control of a trump friendly oligarch, and MSNBC is broken up. The other stations will have less eventful resignations, scandals, etc, but, having gotten, “the message,” they’ll fall into line, and all the hosts will be pretty much new faces. And, the worst part? When lies are ludicrous, yet stated as fact, and people are chilled and afraid, you will continue to tell the truth, making YOU not just a target for the unmarked secret police, (now consolidated into an official unit, not just volunteers bussed into Washington for trump’s peace of mind), but the people closest to you; friends, family and colleagues, will be terrified of being targeted due to their, “known association,” with you. Not only will you have to weigh their safety in the balance, but you may be shocked to discover (as so many others have already) that they have preempted coming under suspicion, by reporting you to the authorities. And the death cry of a modern democracy, which I’ve already heard is, “Yeah, but that could never happen here.” My only answer to that is, “In 2015, if I’d predicted where we are now, would you have believed me?” If I get a, “Yeah but,” reply, I already know I’m talking to someone in denial, too afraid to contemplate what’s really happening. I don’t blame them. I’m scared too. But, I’m NOT going to my grave, wondering what difference I, “could have made?” I’m involved in my local and national politics. And suggest we ALL get involved, and remove this Clear And Present Danger? Sorry to go on so long, but you gave me such a good (thought provoking) response, I felt you deserved a thoughtful answer ✌️👍

  15. R. E. Stone : If he could get away with it, Trump would piss on Lewis’s grave. The saddest part is, everyone knows it. If trump stopped being racist, in a convincing way (never gonna’ happen) he would lose his Cult of support as quickly as they found out about it. Racism is at the heart of all America’s worst problems now. And Putin, and all our other enemies know it, and used it. Trump’s, “Make America Divided Again,” campaign, only worked because he was able to exploit America’s racism. On one side, there’s all the people who didn’t want to acknowledge how bad it really was, and on the other, the racists, who mostly pretend not to be racists, while they’re busy being racists.
