Einstein used to say, (words to the effect of) “If you cannot explain your entire physics theory to a 10 year old child, then you probably don’t understand the theory yourself.” I think that applies to all topics.
Yet we must understand the difference between simplifying our language and talking down to people, if we want to communicate big ideas or complex knowledge successfully. At least, if we hope to reach as many people as possible with the most important issues.
Something else to understand, of equal importance to all would be educators, is the difference between making people, “aware,” of an important topic and giving them a legitimate, “understanding,” of it.
Some of the world’s biggest problems are not about people’s awareness per se, rather than their comprehension. This is why people argue so angrily on the internet. Because people feel such deep, personal pain about matters that everyone is aware of, but remain DIVIDED about. And, when these situations arise, I always look to see WHO is seeking to help people, “understand,” the issues? And WHO is seeking the DIVISION? It is always the dividers that have a vested personal interest in preventing reconciliation, peace and agreement. The dividers are your enemies.
It is often very hard to be objective when you ask yourself this question about matters that are important to you. If you feel any emotion when seeking these answers, be wary of your own biases. If you are able to be objective, the answer is always apparent, without the need for further enquiry.
Then, you will know; those people in positions of power, or those who are simply able to reach a large audience, due to their fame or popularity . . . If THEY are attempting to divide us, then THEY are, “politicians,” whether they claim to be or not. And THEY are the most dangerous people on the planet.
