"Shal not be infringed." It's not the militia that should not be infringed, it's the rights of the people. To have a militia, the people must be not be prohibited from owning military arms. The people create and compose the militia, not the government. You can't separate the two parts if you want to understand the 2A.

@ryant115 You must be a citizen to vote. You don't need to be a citizen to own a firearm. With that being the case, your comment made little sense.

@ryant115 Citizenship matters if you want to vote, so you must prove you are a citizen with an ID, and the ID is not a permit. Your argument makes little sense, and you just doubled down on it.

@rickrose5377 soooo, if you think it's the government that regulates, exactly how are they going to do that without infringing on the rights of the people to bear arms? That is a lion without teeth. To form a militia, the people must already have arms with which to overthrow their own government. Did you think the government would actually decide who of us is allowed to oppose them?

@Biomass1 Most Germans before WWII wanted all Jewish people removed. Numbers does not equal "the right to do so". We could have the numbers to vote to reinstall slavery but it's still a prohibited act. You don't get to vote on my rights.

@anidiotmakesthings lol The statistics simply are not on your side. Simply look at the worst 10 cities and they are lead by liberal or independent governments. What's more, most are in blue states anyway.

@ryant115 That's the second time you've mentioned felons and dishonorably discharged people. They are already prohibited from owning firearms and voting because they have proven themselves to be dangerous people. What do they matter? We are talking about law-abiding citizens that you want to infringe upon. An ID to vote is not an infringement. You also need an ID to purchase a firearm, still not an infringement. IDs are not permits. Please try to make sense. Registration (historically) is the first step to confiscation. It's as if you want to enable tyrants.

@republicansthatdidntvotefo1605 The people you mentioned (police and military) are representatives of the government. I am not, nor am I bound by their idea of qualifications. The 2A tells the government that the citizens are allowed to have weapons of war so that they can overthrow the government when needed. If you want to remove them from the populace, you'll need to remove them from the military and police first. Did the government do background or psych evals before they armed the citizens of Ukraine? No, instead they gave them explosives and automatic weapons while Americans suffer. The government is corrupt and will need replacing sooner than later.

 @sorryoutlandish Who is it that you think has the authority to regulate? To form and operate (regulate) a militia requires an armed people. The militia regulates itself, not the government.
