  31. Loukhi Lee you do understand that if we hadn't dropped the bombs, we were faced with a ground war on the island of Japan don't you? The bombs didn't save only American lives it saved the lives of 100s of thousands of Japanese soldiers and civilians who would have defended the homeland with guerrilla warfare. Do you realize that the Japanese school children helped with the production of weapons during ww2? I don't blame them but if a country is at war, the whole country is at war. As for Hiroshima, it was a "virgin" target. The Allies intentionally did not bomb the city so that the effectiveness of the weapon could be fully assessed. The strikes with the A-bombs we're not on a single factory but against multiple factories , military targets/storage facilities, ship yards and rail yards. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/mp06.asp Carpet bombing would have been the other option for those cities and civilians would have died no matter what. We didn't have the luxury of precision munitions back then. I assume your mention of Japan's strike on us was a reference to Pearl harbor? If so, just know, they did not target only military assets as was normal for the Japanese all though out the war. They in fact committed a large number of atrocities and war crimes against civilians and military from start to end. Need details? China... You didn't say war "against" China but in China, so... ...
