  1.  @ItalianStallionTV I've never even worked for an insurance company, and infact dropped my homeowner's insurance after paying premiums for 33 years, and never even made a claim! Pay off your mortgage and self-insure! Don't live near the coast. Make insurance premiums irrelevant.

  2. Hurricanes come directly off bodies of water to DECIMATE, by wind damage. Live at least 25 miles from a coast and your insurance rates will be lower, no flood insurance required.

  5. No, you can always pay off your mortgage and self-insure. And do much the same for your car, insuring it for liability only and whatever else your state requires.

  6.  @jayesimond9301 Yes. If that ever happened, but I've been here 35 years and no issues, and I'm in FL. (Wish I'd self insured even sooner.) However, I'd never drop the insurance on my rental house, because I cannot predict what anyone else does (how careful or careless they are, etc.)
