  1. My son and his family live in Portland and want to buy a house there. (NOT where I'd choose to live, but they're adamant.) They're just starting to look. I hope they come to their senses, because OR is way too expensive, among other things.

  2. South FL is corrupt and full of Democrat Marxists city/county commissioners, mayors, etc. who spend like drunken Congressmen. Trust me when I say that N FL taxes are far less, though not cheap.

  4. Taxes become delinquent on April 1, and online tax certificates go for sale online June 1. "Tax certificates wil be sold online for all unpaid real estate taxes which could cause the property to be auctioned at a future date". From my FL state and county property tax explanation booklet.

  5. Well, they ARE, partly! My home is in the middle of 2 city lots, and the state only allows one homestead exemption, so my tax bill is higher than my neighbors with only one lot. Seems unfair, because my house is older than theirs.

  6.  @ChrisG9978 Not in FL, but each state is different. Each lot is taxed at it's "highest and best possible use", according to my local assessor's office.
