DeSantis recognized how important it was to get good teachers in FL, so he created a housing village for teachers, nurses, firefighters, policemen, etc. where they can buy houses at below-market rates. This is located in the middle area of the state on acres of donated land, if I remember correctly.

  5.  @maryelizabeth8793 But many boomers stubbornly cling to the never-correct idea that they should be able to rely only on their SS benefits to live on in old age. Now they're boo-hoo-hooing. Even though ALL of us boomers were told back in the day that SS was only one third of the 3 legged stool they'd need to retire on, the other two thirds being pension and savings or IRA (the latter of which was available since the 1970's.)

  10. I'm in FL and have no HOA fees, property tax on homesteaded property up 3-4% YOY, insurance on my homesteaded property is 0 because I self-insure. (Had property insurance for 35 years in FL and never once needed it!) Cry me a river, lol!

  18. As far as I know, most states only require PIP insurance, and that's dirt chheap. Of course, you need to pay off your car first, or have bought it with cash.
