I'm old and I still like checks for some things. You can't even pay your property taxes without a check, if sending by mail. And over the phone not an option, unless paying an additional 3% for using a creditcard.

Because in America, there are numerous situations in which there are literally no other options for paying some items except by check. Not safe ones, anyway. And cash is still used here by a good number of people to pay bills, too. Or to simply purchase something without Big Brother knowing about it, lol.

Yes, I learned that too.

But who's got time to go to the bank to purchase money orders? Or to deposit them? I hate when my tenant mails me a money order to pay rent, lol.

@carolbagwell6769 Years ago, State Farm agent told me she would cancel me if I ever made a claim, and I KNEW she was serious!

So true. I'm in my 70s, and lived in a (nice) apartment with my now-ex for 5 years before we could afford to buy our first little home. It was about as old as we were, lol.

Or do what my oldest son and his bride did when they got married: pick a lovely park or even a back yard, host the wedding there, and then move to a nearby rented venue for refreshments, dancing and celebration. My son and daughter in law picked a beautiful historical Indian burial Mound (N FL) setting, with giant Live Oaks and warm weather. (This was free of charge). The bride wore a gorgeous vintage wedding gown from the 1970's, and looked fabulous. The happy couple chose to rent a nearby American Legion Hall next to a lake (cheap but full of ambience, as well as having a great bar) and everyone sat at tables decorated by the bride's mom and aunt, and danced to the band. A good time was had by all, and the wedding cake was brought over by Publix bakery, across the street from the American Legion Hall.

In-app notifications can be hard to remember to check daily, but if safer than text, worth doing, I guess.

Buyers of investment property shouldknow before theybuy that property tax assessment (of non-homesteaded property) can go up as much as 10% per year, as per FL statutes.

Wouldn't work here in US for small landlord payments or say, for an HOA payment consisting of owner-volunteers, because many situations don't allow it. I looked into getting something safe but similar for my tenant's rent payment, and nothing existed. Otherwise, I use credit card and ACH for almost every payment I make. (ACH is probably the same thing as your Swish system. It's great!)

I've lived in FL most of my life, and love the freedom and even the weather here, but I'm in N FL. Grew up in S FL, but S FL is no longer enjoyable to live in, for many reasons, IMO.

The expense of doing that will be great, though.

It will.

I recently had to cancel abank check thatnever arrived at its destination in another state, and re-issue another one. Expensive. Willnever mail a check from my mailbox again; only from the post office itself. Not every place accepts ACH and/or credit card, unfortunately.
