  8. No, the STATE property tax assessment cannot go up more than 3% per year, Michael. The big increase is your county/city big-spending commissioners and mayors (Democrats, of course) who are allowed to raise your LOCAL taxes for ridiculous add-ons. You need to change this locally.

  10. Michael, it depends WHERE you live in FL. I'm in N. FL, and recently switched auto insurance. Now I'm only paying $303 every 6 months.

  11. I'm in N. FL, and State Farm still covers my rental house for less than $1K per year. But after 34 years of paying them for my homeowners' insurance and never making a claim, I dropped it and am self-insuring with the premium savings. ( I always had a big deductible, anyway.) I would never try that with an investment rental house, though.

  14. Mario, here in FL, my dentist's office went BONKERS when the pandemic was at its height. Patients had to complete a form online before coming to the office, not regarding vaxx status, but regarding Covid symptoms and recent foreign travel. We were asked to phone them when we arrived at the office for appointment, remain in car until they phoned us back telling us our dental chair was ready. They unlocked the office door to let us in, then immediately took our temperatures an d SPRAYED our hands with a nasty smelling disinfectant. (At this, I finally objected, and told them i didn't want toxic chemicals sprayed on me, but I was told this is protocol. However, they did back off a bit with the toxins.) Anyway, they have finally relented a bit so nowdays when we go in, we don't even have to wear those stupid masks anymore. Good luck, all of the medical establishments have gone bonkers, it is beyond ridiculous.

  17. FL "Hometown Heroes" is a program created strictly to bring in teachers, nurses, police, firefighters, etc. IOW, it is a way to attract the helping professions to FL that otherwise would not ordinarily be able to afford to buy a home here. IOW, a win-win situation, allegedly.

  23. Michael, where exactly are you getting this info on homeowners' insurance rates increasing at these amounts?? I still have a single-family rental (non-homeowner's) policy that renewed this month, and it "only" went up about 9%. State Farm in N. FL.

People can be outraged all they want, but bills have to be paid, and I know of some HOAs who let deadbeats off the hook, making the responsible owners pick up the slack, when an unpaid assessment is needed. (So unfair.) Condo living is like living in a Marxist country.

  29. Michael, a few years ago my homeowners/auto insurance agent retired and a younger one took her place. One of the first things she said to me was, "don't ever make a claim, because we'll drop you if you do!" And she was dead serious. I would state the company, but I still have my rental property insured with them, so I better not.

Ron DeSantis commented in an interview that he and his wife sold their (modest, middle-class) house to move into the Governor's Mansion several years ago, but now find they're priced out of buying a house again! His assets only put him in the middle class, so as usual, he speaks the truth, lol! He has been hit by inflation like the rest of us.

  32. I recently had to cancel abank check thatnever arrived at its destination in another state, and re-issue another one. Expensive. Willnever mail a check from my mailbox again; only from the post office itself. Not every place accepts ACH and/or credit card, unfortunately.

  35. I agree that most of the old houses were better qualitymaterials, especially the "bones". The rafters in my 1960 house are twice the size and strength of modern homes built to supposedly hurricane-stronger building codes. I once had half a Live Oak fall on my roof and all it did was tear offhalf a shingle. I'm also in FL and have never in 36 years had any hurricane damage.
