  1. Serious question: How do we know the US doesn't have systems like these? Like if the US doesn't have similar capabilities, why leave such a gap in performance? Brainstorming it's because the US's is a global superpower: they have flexible solutions. A permanent satellite over potentially hostile country would be beneficial but politically annoying. Laser distance doesn't matter in space, not significantly at least
