The only circumstances when private companies are better than public is where there is competition involved that forces to innovate and provide consumer-friendly good and services. The competition allows consumers to vote with their feet. If competition is absent, limited or obstructed, the benefits diminish accordingly

Phil, never interrupt your enemy while he is making a mistake

A colleague joked that operation moonshot will mean people will need to go to the Moon to get a shot at testing
49
As Sir Humphrey would say: stupid decision, but frightfully well carried out
33
Vote of no confidence, either by the parliament, or by the party
31
They lost mostly to Reform, which will not happen in the next GE. But I was glad to see that a lot of LibDems switched to Labour
25
Phil, have you ever done a video on how Brexit and the absence of FoM is going to affect social care industry?
25
It's good that they can't lower standards, it will make it easier to rejoin the Customs Union
24
I'm for an independent London. We don't want to pay for English indulgence any more
23
No we don't give up. This parliament is Tory. We need to make it Tory-free or at least Tory-light.
23
The problem is... Ours is even worse. And we were always the ones benefitting from trade between Europe and the rest of the world, because we were the banking intermediary of choice
21
No, you are mixing up. He met with a former KGB officer without witnesses AND made his son a Lord
20
Wow, I've never seen this statistics. So Labour party is almost entirely dependent on Trade Unions for funding. This is really strange. The second largest party in parliament is not supported by companies and wealthy individuals. Even Lib Dems have more support from these sources
19
The 3rd solution is UK rejoining the EU or the CU/SM or just aligning with them to the extent that no checks are needed
18
They are, but since they are not actually a dictatorship, we can change them next year
16
Write it on the side of a red bus - this seems to be the most trustworthy source of information these days
16
Phil, you have a very high profile, you are one of the most popular Labour media performers. I think it would be really worth ford you to go to the conference, not as a delegate, but as a representative of Labour media. To report us the mood at the conference. And to raise your profile even higher. Maybe people in the party will take your ideas about information policy more seriously
16
I wish SAGE was as public as this. And I wish this independent science group was in operation earlier. I wish opposition parties formed am alternative policy group based on the independent advice and developed an independent decentralised tracing app and tracing army from volunteers this effectively forming an alternative government for the 53% of the population who didn't vote for the hard right parties. I need a gold fish now.
15
Off to buy some garlic...
15
Also to other people in the country who didn't know if they were crazy for thinking this bill is wrong, i.e. validating their views
15
The only guy in the whole Conservative party you would think actually deserves it and would actually be good at it, and he decides not to stand
14
Labour needs media on their side. Since the existing media won't ever be, they need to create their own media. Until they do it, there is no point in anything they do
14
He wants to be great. So far he hasn't done anything to qualify for "great"
14
It's not his country though, he is Indian, with Indian interests and American property
13
Steve Dorrans not only want but achieve it too. For some reason sheep really liked to follow wolves. They sound so reassuring
13
He disappeared from the Conservatives national campaign after appearing to suggest he was smarter that the people who died in the Grenfell tower tragedy.
13
Remember the 70s, when UK was the sick man of Europe with no growth, non-stop strikes, labour, goods and energy shortages? Just before we joined the EEC. Well now we are back there
13
Frankly, I'm glad that it's that bad. This means there is a chance people will be really sick of Tories by the next GE.
12
Thatcher dismantled manufacturing, but have service economy in return. Conservative donors made money on manufacturing dismantling. But the new conservative donors need to make money somewhere, so Johnson is now dismantling banking services to benefit his conservative donors. Unfortunately there will be not much left after that, so I guess they will need to build something first before dismantling it. Or maybe they will let Labour in for 2-3 rounds to build something?
12
If this won't kill the Tories, what will?
12
And should not get a right to vote
12
Phil, could you cover the cancellation of Economic Crime Bill?
12
glareola you don't speak for the majority, only for impressionable minority
11
Aso even by Eton's standards he was a lazy bastard
11
They are not qualified, but they have been elected by the Brexiteer mob...
10
At least for a nation that hardly produces anything, except for raw unprocessed inedible seafood
10
Actually, I expected this to happen. Tories inherently love cheap foreign labour, but their voters don't, so they needed to show them what horror would ensue if cheap labour was no longer there. I'm just surprised they gave up so quickly. I thought they would give up in November, just in time for Xmas
10
This guy cannot capitulate. Someone will need to "capitulate" him
10
What matters is: will Keir Starmer be able to defeat them?
10
Yes, no freedom of movement for the French, we want Hong Kongers now
10
Yes, people are dumb for blindly following a narcissist and psychopath Johnson. They should be shamed of themselves
9
Narcissistic and anti-social disorder (psychopathy) spectrum
9
This is a great opportunity for our nation to fight obesity, overeating and waste crisis
9
So Tories literally take the expression "don't let a good crisis go to waste". They make money for their friends for it and institute a huge power grab
9
Let's give all frontline NHS and care workers a war-time supplement. And an automatic settled status for the foreign ones
9
Where are anti-trans demands? "Regan’s demands were laughably undemanding. In her letter to Yousaf she called for ‘competence in government’ prioritising ‘the rights of women and children’ and placing independence ‘front and centre’ of the Scottish government’s agenda."
9
London should separate from the UK and join the EU immediately, until it's too late
9
Maybe he will bring more damage to Sunak and the Tories by staying
9
He is Irish
8
Phil, where are the charts you are talking about? Taxation vs productivity
