Phil, I think you are wrong on Corbyn's claim that he won the argument on ending austerity. What he meant is that he shifted Conservatives' talk on austerity, which he did. The fact that Labour didn't win the election has not much to do with winning or losing arguments. Like for example you could say that Brexit Party won an argument on hard Brexit, by shifting Tories' position. Libdems won an argument on 2nd referendum by shifting Labour towards it. Green party has 1 MP, yet they are winning an argument on Climate Change, arguably with help of Xtinction Rebellion, by putting Climate Change high on people's agenda. Labour has now opened an argument on Private schools charity tax breaks and various national services, e.g. education and social care. Even if he will not be the one implementing them in the next 5 years, in the next election with no question of Brexit, these things might become the decisive points of voters. Boris won on hate this time. Unless he is able to maintain hate during the next 5 years, the next election might be won on those arguments that Corbyn raised.
