@pew-pew2224 it's disunity of the left that destroyed the Remain cause. Corbyn's selfishness. We cound have gotten the 2nd ref in so many different ways of it was not for him and his insistence on only dislodging Boris in his favour. Also Jo Swinson who supported general election. Also all those Labour MPs who finally voted for Boris' deal.

Security union doesn't have to be a political union. British have always wanted a security and a trade union, never a political, monetary or banking union, nor a free movent zone.

Qwfwq66 it all went horribly wrong during labour time. Rome and Lisbon ceded too much power to Brussels. So if in the past it were London politicians who got all the bribes, now it's Brussels. It's not about opinions and icons, it's about power.

Darth Brino I'd prefer no Rome/Lisbon in the first place

@pew-pew2224 unlikely to disappear but we'll make sure that one particular part of the world will influences us less. Unfortunately, we will also influence it less... But that's another question

@pew-pew2224 I came to the same opinion (or rather came to it as a way to reconcile myself with the result of the general election). Even if it's not successful, and people will get poorer, at least we got there by a democratic process (however badly and unfairly organised). Maybe it will teach the people a lesson. Fingers crossed it will. In theory, my ideal scenario is that other EU nations will join us and we will make our own Union, this time with Britain as a driving force, not France and Germany, and hopefully a bit more democratic. EEA/EFTA could be such a structure

@borntodoit8744 I was pretty clear it was my ideal theoretical scenario. I don't have any illusions that it will ever happen, although I think that the likes of Sweden, Finland, Denmark and the current EEA states may be interested. And I have the impression that this would be fine with the UK electorate and UK media who control.

@k.t.8084 Not sure, which of my comments you are replying to. I've just watched the lecture and it only confirms my view that 1. we must follow democratic process for any decision to give any power. Even if it's a token referendum to endorse a treaty, this gives the British people the feeling of ownership. And nothing works better to shut up dissenting voices than a clear endorsement (52/48 with demographic direction towards parity is by no means clear). 2. Political integration does not have to be coupled with economic integration. Remember, people in the EU were broadly happy with EEC, but as soon as they were asked about European constitution (refs in France and Ireland), they said no. So it's not the same thing not only for Brits, but for other Europeans too. 3. As for the cream... what do you think British people would have said if they were asked to agree to every veto'able decision? Do you think Romania and Poland would be in the EU? If European people were asked if they were ok to switch their currency to Euro, would they have agreed to change it? Would British people oppose the EU that fiercely if they knew that any decision for Turkey to join the EU was dependent on their democratic choice? Something tells me it's No to each of these questions. So it IS possible to skim the cream only. There is just no political will.

@k.t.8084 well they are not the ones who squandered the power. In fact I think they are pretty happy of what they have done now. My point was only about the leader who actually lost everything because of his own selfishness. The Remainers and soft Brexiters were ready to put GNU with lots of Labour representatives into power, if Corbyn were to give way and not be the PM, but maybe the deputy PM. This was his best bet to be close to the government and show to the people what he is capable to do and how much better it is for the people. This would give him an enormous advantage in the GE. But no, he decided that staying in the opposition is the right place for him to bring change to people's lives. And unfortunately he dragged the whole Labour party with him. Well, let's see what they can do in opposition (bitter smirk).

chris carney just abouy 5% of them would be enough to revert the decision. I think there are a bit more bigots in this country than that.
