Practically yes. And a much better place to live than mainland China-including with honest elections where citizens can vote. However legally the world never did the sane thing and simple recognize that the 2 governments are fragments of a civil war that never ended. Though part of the negotiations that involved giving the UN seat that Taiwan used to sit on to mainland China is support for peaceful reunification. But a mainland Chinese invasion is not peaceful reunification.

@sudo4598 If given a choice they probably want independence. Though many of them probably also want the status quo to avoid ruffling feathers. After all why have a war if it is not needed to defend oneself. The problem there is can democracy in Taiwan be continued without an invasion from mainland China someday or will Taiwan's democracy have to fight in order to continue existing?

@sudo4598 Agreed.

1 of the funny things about deniers (actually liars) is they supposedly don't want government interfering with thing but then maintain the bi-partisan block on lawsuits against fossil fuel companies over Global Warming damages. Isn't part of responsibility as well as the whole idea of Capitalism part of cleaning up your own mess and paying your own bills? Pretty hypocritical. Also notice how the deniers have changed lies over time-it went from there is no Global Warming to now the is Global Warming but the billions of tons of carbon that has been dumped into the air each year for decades supposedly cannot have anything to do with it. Trying to maintain the irresponsibility but changing the lies to do it with.

"Literally not a single bit of difference on Trump and Biden/Harris on Gaza." This is probably wrong on the facts as are most false equivalences. Woodward's book reveals Biden has been pushing to get Gazans food. Trump wouldn't care. Harris has been harsher then Biden on criticizing Netanyahu. Trump is ok with genocide. Netanyahu wants Trump, letting Trump back in would be rewarding genocide.

I'm actually ok with that so long as the Republican ticket is not Trump or another authoritarian. This particular election the stakes are too high to mess with. BTW I have long hated the "most important election" line and do not use it with people myself.
