  3. Actually that is the opposite is true. Most of the spending goes to manufacturing inside the USA and preventing Putin from being able to conquer his neighbors helps avoid a WW3 situation. Appeasing rather than opposing Hitler earlier opened the door to WW2, a guy called Chamberlain is especially known for being part of the appeasement problem before WW2 and he proclaimed "Peace in our time" right after cutting a deal with Hitler and not long before Hitler decided to start WW2.

  4. Ukraine's current President is a Russian speaker. Just because people can speak Russian or have at least some Russian ethnicity doesn't meant they want to be under Putin's control-a majority of Eastern Ukrainians do not.

More recently a majority of each of them that was capable of voting in Ukrainian elections (not occupied by Russia) voted for current Ukrainian President Zelensky. Now Russia does like to fake holding referendums where the official results are lies made up in Moscow rather than people living in Crimea or Donbas.

Notice in this discussion how Mearsheimer tried to cover for rising Russian inflation and war debts as well? There is much Mearsheimer says that related to Russia and Ukraine that turns out to be untrustworthy/false after one takes a closer examination.

  21. Russia has been lying about its economy since at least when Putin started the current war with Ukraine. At first to hide that sanctions were having an impact, also to hide just how much debt Russia has racked up. Also the EU's economy is something like 9 times bigger than Russia's.

Even on a bad day the EU is much bigger than Russia. Meanwhile Russia has being lying about its economic stats and trying to hide its war debts since Putin started the current war with Ukraine.

  26. The referendums were faked. A sizable portion possible voters in Crimea actually never voted yet the supposed turnout was over over 80%. That is a sign Moscow was making up the official results to just be whatever it wanted. Also the option to stay part of Ukraine was never even on the ballot-not that Moscow was really going to pay attention to what the ballots said anyway.

Crimea has been part of modern Ukraine since modern Ukraine became a nation about three decades ago. For the last decade it can be said that Russia occupied and is colonizing it but even if someone takes away that decade that doesn't change that the statement is false. Also 2014 was never a coup, that is just Russian lies being repeated. The corrupt former President of Ukraine fled after backlash to his actions-both that he broke campaign promises to do a trade deal with the EU and that he used security forces to attack protestors. The follow utter lie to Russia being "a forbidden language" is undercut by that Russian be spoken when Ukrainians feel like it-including Ukraine's current (and far less corrupt than the guy who fled his nation to Russia back in 2014) President.

  34. There are a few things worth noting to highlight now Mearsheimer is trying to bs people. While is a terrible loss of life more Russia's military has taken more casualties than Ukraine's military has. The only way there are more Ukrainians dying in this is if someone counts the Ukrainian civilians that were killed-often in their hometowns due to Russian strikes rather than on the battlefield. Ukraine is still holding on to Russian territory using a small strike force a couple years after Putin started a war with Ukraine. At the current rate Ukraine can hold out for decades when it comes to losing territory to Putin's forces. Russia likes to lie about its economy but the weight of Russian war debts (including those Putin tries to hide) are sizable and growing-the inflation Russia's economy faces is high and growing. If you look at a map Putin as yet to fully control any of the Oblasts that Mearsheimer wants to hand over to him. This means Mearsheimer wants to hand Ukrainian territory to Putin that is still under control of Ukraine. Mearsheimer is cheerleading/scaremongering for Putin while not admitting the biggest obstacle to peace is Putin and Putin has been since he started this war.

  37. Not really. Mearsheimer flat out lied about the situation and repeated Russian propaganda and nobody got into any statistics to test who is correct. Inflation in Russia is very high right now and Russia has lost over half of all the tanks it had (including those in storage). While living in a Ukraine under frequent missile and bomb attacks isn't good for Ukrainian civilians Mearsheimer was dishonest about both Russian loses and Russia's how economy is doing.

And Putin has been planning to attack Ukraine for years. Putin doesn't say Ukraine isn't a real nation simply because out of concerns of NATO membership. Ukrainians understand that if they don't stop Putin now he will keep coming-they don't want the war but understand it is either now or again and again and again. Don't forget in 2014 the corrupt former President that ended up fleeing Ukraine got a few protests going by breaking his campaign promise to do a trade deal with the EU. Granted the protests grew very rapidly when he tried to force to disrupt the protests and that resulted in even more protests plus a backlash that scared him off but there is not dislike towards the EU by most Ukrainians.. very different from Russia and its history in Afghanistan. Or the US and its for that matter.
