@BaddeJimme If only it was that simple. Nukes encouraged Japan to surrender, so did the possibility of facing the Soviet army. Don't forget there was a Japanese song that went something like 100,000 souls for the Emperor that was about giving Japanese civilians spears if nothing else and sending them-men, women, & children-down to the beach to fight against an allied (US) landing. As part of a encouraging the war to continue a pro-war member of the Japanese Minister tried telling the Emperor that the atom bomb took so many resources to build that the USA only had 1. He made these comments not long before the 2nd bomb was used. However it happened whomever convinced the Japanese government to surrender probably saved a lot of lives-both US and Japanese lives. Just because surrender was the correct strategic decision in the long run doesn't mean it automatically would've happened, nor as soon as it did.

@anderspuck Just wanted to mention there could be a reason Putin is hitting Ukrainian grain stores. He may be trying to damage the infrastructure related Ukrainian agriculture. After all, Putin tried unsuccessfully cancel further grain/wheat shipments from Ukraine.
