"Wagner" are not mercenaries. Mercenaries by definition go to war for some side that will pay them, no matter what side that is. Wagner works only for Russia, so there is no difference between Wagner and any paid army in the world.

Russia attacked Ukraine because, after the USA coup in 2014 Ukraine started tormenting, torturing, and killing big Russian minority in Donbas, Russia is simply defending Russians and not allowing to NATO to engulf Ukraine. They have the right to defend their existence, the real occupier is the USA and NATO.

Russia has nothing to gain, just a lot of problems if Russia attacks Poland or any country where there are not as many Russians as in Ukraine. Besides Poland is part of NATO so Russia would never attack Poland, has no reason. Those are stories of the USA and how Russia suddenly wants to attack countries just because. The case with Ukraine is very different.

@David-ns4ym No tank can survive new anti-tank rounds... Why do you think the USA didn't send a few Abrams tanks? Leopard 2, celebrated, and those rounds are going like a hot knife in butter. And you think Russian tanks are so bad, but you selected exactly those, American, Israeli Korean... It makes no difference, now tanks, any tank can be destroyed at least to that degree that if the crew is lucky they will escape...some of them... Who knows when tanks will again appear, and those new, I bet that they will be such that there will be no human crew... Why should a tank have a human crew inside when all can be done from a distance? But Abrams can survive...sure... Let the USA send a dozen of their best Abrams tanks and soon there will be Abrams Square and the stocks of the company who makes those "wonder" tanks will go down... That is why they are sending those old F-16S, they knew those will do nothing, some will be destroyed on the ground, and most who will be so lucky to go to air...Russia has excellent SAM systems, S-400 will destroy any of those, or some advanced Russian jet. That regime in Ukraine, that is a boomerang that will hit the country that is using it, the USA over its head... Cluster bombs? So Russia will be able to use the same weaponry, a fair game... And who will suffer? Ukraine... I am sure the USA is ready to fight to the last Ukrainian, it is not like Americans are dying there, at least not too many just some instructors, and some mercs, and no one cares about those.

Was the USA trying to conquer Serbia when they started that illegal war against that small country and made Kosovo a separate state just because Albanians wanted Kosovo to be separate? Russia will liberate Donbas, that big landbridge from Donabs to Crimea, and maybe Odeas which is a Russian city to connect Transnistria with Russia proper. Are you even aware how easy Russia is fighting with that proxy of the USA, almost the whole of NATO (Not my country though, we gave no weaponry to that regime of that beggar, not a single bullet), and a dozen other countries who are giving weaponry and money to that regime the USA put on power via that coup in 2014... And Rissia is using just a fragment of its military power, some 20 percent... If Russia wanted they can take the whole of Eastern Ukraine, and historically it is Russian, but no, they will do what the USA did, the USA made a precedent by making Kosovo, and Russia will use it. And the USA, can't do sh*t... They will watch and later will claim it was all part of their plan, Russia to take those parts because they can't change anything. "Drones, Mines, and Missiles aren’t the same tool as a tank." that sentence is a truism and we should not waste time on that. But imagine a tank, a very small tank that has no people inside, something like a drone tank that does the same thing that tank does, but people, soldiers are not in jeopardy... That is not the same as the tank with people in it, but as far as I can predict, probably that is the future.

@-John-Doe- Yes, you understand what I had on mind, some type of unmanned tankette, or some really developed futuristic vehicle which can hide easily, change its color, be armored at the vital element really good, and armed with some kind of tank gun, missiles, SAM... who knows...But, my point, and obviously yours is that this war is proving that things are changing fast on the military stage, especially when forces that have bing knowledge and investment in weaponry collide, and a lot of interests are under question.

What is gray about that? And Russia tolerated that for 8 years, the straw that broke the camel's back was not blatant disregard for the Minsk agreement, but a promise that Ukraine will be part of NATO, a military organization that lost its reason to exist because it was made as a military alliance that should have protected Western Europe of communist Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is gone for more than 3 decades, Russia is not a communist country and it is not the Soviet Union, but the USA enlarged NATO, from 14 members now NATO has 32, 33 members... Why? If there is no enemy what is the purpose of NATO? The USA had to invent a new enemy, the new-old enemy Russia, and after Russian intervention, that war in Ukraine started, USA used that to scare its NATO partners, how suddenly Russia wants to attack and occupy countries for "reasons" and that Putin is a homicidal maniac that is ready to attack countries... Why would Russia do that? What do you think the USA would have backed if Serbia was a bit stronger or would start as you are saying "destroying the whole country"? No, Russia showed an incredible ability to restrain and not use what they have at their disposal. And war is war, it is a messy thing, but Russia could have secured internet communication, phones, water food, and gather double that side of an army which still will be maybe just half what Russia has in peace, 1.3 million soldiers, and started indiscriminate destruction. BUT Russia did not do that.

@DutchTunisian I mention Serbia and Kosovo because that is the situation when the USA made a precedent about changing borders, and now the USA had no moral stance from which it can preach how territories in which Russians and Russophiles live can't be separated and it is bad... They did it, so a country with enough military power can do that. And if you start will legitimacy, let me remind you that the war of the USA against Serbia wasn't exactly legal.

It is a game between the engineers who are inventing defensive capabilities of tanks and those who make missiles for the destruction of tanks. Now those who make anti-tank weaponry have the advantage, but scientists, and engineers are working, and soon we will see some new invention that will tip the scale and tanks will be relevant again... That is old game in the war and weapon industry, so no one can say that tanks are definitely obsolete.
