Monuments should be preserved, even if those are made by absolutistic monarchies, of some civilization that had slavery as an institution, or those that were made by regimes that we know as totalitarian... Why? Because they are still art, certain types of art that were made by professionals... If people don't want to watch those, put those in some museum and explain that it was made in the time of that and that regime and so on...There is such a strange phenomenon happening in some Muslim countries. According to Islam only the god, Allah should be worshipped, so some took that to a radical level, for instance in Mecca 98 percent of things that were made in the time when Mohamed lived are destroyed... The explanation, rationalization is that some people might be tempted to go to that and that house in which some important figure lived and to make a sin... That is why so many monuments in that part of the world are destroyed. History should be preserved, good or bad, it should be remembered. And monuments are a part of the history of humankind.
