I'm Australian and I can tell you its the same here. There's a really good lecture by John Mearsheimer on Liberal Hegemony that he gave at Yale in 2017. Yeah I know Mearsheimer is another University of Chicago goon, but he's an incredibly intelligent goon and his analysis of American Liberals and how they behave in the foreign sphere is 100% spot on. His main point is that its hardwired into American Liberal ideology that if they think any country is not doing what they would do then they are obliged to fix it. Which is what we saw American Liberals do all through Eastern Europe after the end of the Cold War and what they tried to do in Iraq and Afghanistan. What I hate about Mearsheimer is his lack of a similar critique of American Libertarians who not only interfere in other countries but do so in some of the most vicious and ruthless ways imaginable. They have this insane attitude that American profits come first and anything that's out there for the taking should be grabbed AND ANYTHING that might prevent future grabs is to be prevented at all costs which is why they helped fund the Libertarian backed NO Campaign in the recent Australian referendum with a mountain of lies and misdirection.

@lessimcdowell9897 that's a good point and the bit I'd say is that liberty isn't an economic or political term and it can be part of almost any political or economic narrative. These days however its pretty much applies to that side of American ideology that believes in the almost anarchist idea that the government should be as small as possible. As Milton Freidman said “Government has three primary functions. It should provide for military defense of the nation. It should enforce contracts between individuals. It should protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property. When government-- in pursuit of good intentions tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the cost come in inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player.” The problem is most American Libertarians actually believe that their liberty supersedes the liberties of other people. Its a case of "I want what I want, f-ck you!"
