Australian here and that summation is exactly what I see as an outside observer. I'm actually an engineer and have been trying to figure out why economists are driving all our economies into the ground. That story swings around to the Milton Friedman inspired, Ronald Reagan Reaganomics and Margret Thatcher Thatcherism revolution in the 1970s. Friedman was an absolute free market advocate. He believed that governments were inherently corrupt and incompetent and hos free market was the solution. Also out of the same University of Chicago mentality came the Neoconservative movement who also believed that governments were the problem not the solution which was also another thing adopted by Reagan. So there's been both a political and economic movement to push governments out of the way so that the business community could run everything. Margret Thatcher also introduced the world to external consultants effectively running government departments. YES - governments had always hired outside consultants but Thatcher jacked that through the roof. Here in Australia (right now) all of our government departments are effectively run by consultants (KPMG, EY, PwC,.......) and its a major problem. Go look up the PwC scandal. So you are SPOT ON that this is a huge problem in America, but its also a problem that America has exported to the rest of the world and we have all been stupid to accept it.

@blueberryiswar Go watch some of Mark Blyth's work on Angrynomics. There's a short intro video on it. He explains that Capitalism has been through 3 major phases and that we should be moving towards a new version and we are NOT. He uses the analogy of a computer. Eventually the computer develops bugs and you need to upgrade. What he points out is that in 2007-08 a major bug hit us and instead of a complete upgrade we got a patch. The problem isn't capitalism its the version we are running and its a patched version and the patch has now failed. On socialism - go and look at what happened in Soviet SOCIALIST Russia and then ask if you want to repeat that. You should have the same response to being asked about repeating any of the Fascist regimes. We need a completely new economic paradigm not a patched or re-hashed version of what's previously failed.

@d.w.stratton4078 Thank's I just watch Robert Reich (video titled "What the hell shoudl Democrats do?"") and some of his comments are ridiculous. Robert is normally a very smart guy especially on economics, but on his pandering to the mentality of the Democrats he's stuck in a mind warp. Way back in 2020 (before the election) when Biden had stomped all over Bernie Sanders by making deals behind everyone's backs a person (I forget their name) wrote this incredibly poignant comment. "Joe Biden is the reason why Trump got elected." It probably should have been written as "The Democratic Party Leaders are the reason why Trump got elected" Because its not so much Joe Boden but that whole clique that's centred around the Clintons and Obamas. Neither of those Presidencies were that successful. Clinton blew his up by getting blown and Obama (despite being a great orator) never really got anything done. He had a supermajority and got steamrolled on health care and tired nothing after that. Despite the Democrats having the White house for 20 of the last 32 years SCOTUS is now 6-3 maniac GOP symps.
