Welcome to what its like to be in every other community. No matter how hard you try there's always somebody in your community or cultural group who takes their identity too far. Despite being in the minority, they tend to profess purity and often make everyone in that cultural group look bad. I'm Australian (Anglo-Saxon descent) but went to college in America (U. Illinois). Here in Australia we have a pretty ugly history with respect to our native population and a few other things. Every time we take a couple of steps forward some puritanical clown jumps up and says something stupid or ridiculous and it goes backwards. Just understand that EVERY group of people on the planet have those few who claim to be the most pure, most loyal and most patriotic of the group. OF NOTE - they might dislike people outside their group but they tend to be vicious towards anyone in their group who they perceive as being disloyal. We see this among the MAGA people who can be vicious towards anyone they perceive as disloyal to Trump. We also see it in Russia with the repression of anyone who isn't 100% behind Putin. It happened in Nazi Germany with any German who wasn't 100% behind Hitler. Go look what they did to Sophie Scholl.

@kiwihib Yeah, I was born in the 1960s and grew up in the 1970s. I am quite well aware of the attitudes many people had back then. Times change and people change. There was stuff said back then that was considered normal and these days most of us would not tolerate that stuff for a fraction of a heartbeat. I have no problems with anyone saying Australia has a bad history of racial issues. SO LONG AS THEY ARE WILLING TO ADMIT THEIR OWN HISTORY AS WELL. Because every nation and every tribe has its ugly bits of history.

@kiwihib You know there's over 5,000 years of recorded History and for all but the last 120 years women were never allowed to vote ANYWHERE on anything. 2 of the first countries in the world to give women the vote were New Zealand and Australia. So there were some hangovers. So there were some things that weren't fixed straight away.

@rasheed7934 Well actually there has always been various societies through history where women were given a say in decisions. In fact a little known thing about European history that you seem unaware of is that women arranged many of the prominent marriages and therefore had a lot of quiet political power. It was their daughters who got used to cement various treaties and alliances, so they had some interesting power. Besides that I have NO IDEA what you comment has to do with this conversation anyway. I didn't bring up the subject of women that was clown from New Zealand who's contribution was how we arranged our drinking establishments back in time. Plus it was the same arrangement as they had in Britain for several hundred years. But then some people just want to say irrelevant stuff rather than actually deal with issues.

@kiwihib Why TF are you saying I'm stuck in the past. Your the person who has brought up something that was IN THE PAST and was done away with decades ago. I know exactly what sort of Kiwi you are now. Proverbially speaking 9 out 10 Kiwis come to Australian and they never cause any problems. YOU'RE THE OTHER KIND - arrogant, ignorant, stupid, self righteous, never stops telling everyone how great New Zealand is, never stops complaining about Australia AND IS ALWAYS CAUSING TROUBLE. Do everyone a favor. STFU and stay in New Zealand because you know nothing about the world.
