He might be doing a better job than Trump but almost anyone could. And since you raise the Foreign Policy issue. CAN YOU AMERICANS PLEASE TAKE A BASIC CLASS IN WORLD GEOGRAPHY AND LEARN WHERE PLACES ARE. The Australian base for submarines is over 4000 nautical miles form the South China Sea. Its in Perth way over on the far south west (lower left on a map) of Australia. The Philippines where America is re-establishing its naval base BORDERS the South China Sea. The Solomon islands is NOT in the Indian Ocean and you cant have a small island that's in the Indian ocean or the Pacific. There is an island that has shores in both the Indian and Pacific oceans. Its called Australia and its not small. In fact its almost the same size at mainland USA (as in the lower 48). We all know Americans are geographically challenged but do you have to be this bad. I did my degree in America and every time you clowns do this you make my education look bad. FYI - I did aerospace engineering and it was awesome.

@LookB4ULeap You've just described how EVERY Democracy works. At its core democracy allows different opinions and policies to co-exist at the same time. Even in countries where there is absolute control there's almost always a different opinion even if it doesn't dare speak out. The biggest problem the world actually has with America right now is that too many Americans are so badly informed about the rest of the world. Even worse is how little Americans know of their own country. I'm a Gen-Xr and did my degree in the late 80s. I used to find it embarrassing how well my friends understood the US Constitution while I new little of my own. Even those friends who weren't pre-law or politically minded were well informed. BUT then they had all done CIVICS in high school. If there is one thing I would add to the high school curriculum of Australia it would be a Australian version of the civics class that all Americans used to do in high school. Since I can see the effect of what Bush and Cheney did by defunding civics. I think I can fairly claim that in defunding civics Bush & Cheney committed a "social" or "societal" crime against the American people. I think its one of America's major problems right now. Trump would never have gotten away with what he did if the American people were better informed and civics gave the American people the foundation of being better informed which is why I'd like to see an Australian version of it taught here. If America ever does bring it back the one thing they need to add to that class would be some basic world geography and geo-politics. Sorry for the rant

@taranullius9221 I'd agree the whole AUKUS thing is a clusterf*ck. But then even before AUKUS the submarine program was a disaster in the making and almost as bad as the Collins project had been back in the 1990s. Our Navy's procurement program is out of control. The submarines are just part of it. The patrols boats and frigate programs have some insane costs Just to try and work out the sub costing I've done an alternative project costing of 6 nuclear powered subs built in Britain with an Australian task force of 6,500 and 6 German non-nuclear subs (1 built in Germany and 5 here). I have added in some staggering costs, incentives and bonuses and I am still over $115 Billion under the smaller estimate of $268 Billion. I have spoken to other engineers about it and we all agree the costs are insane. One of the best is the dry dock upgrade in Perth that was AU$4.3 Billion that's now AU$8 Billion. We've all worked on the large mining projects and can't understand how its costing more than AU$1.2 Billion. Oddly yesterday I watched the channel Sub Brief and he talked about the insane costs of the American dry dock program and pointed out how some of their costs have magically TRIPLED. He called it criminal. Somewhere someone is making a lot of money. I don't know if we'd spent billions on the French option but its certainly cost a staggering amount of money to get nothing done. You are right there's more posturing than practicality to the whole Navy subs and boats thing.

@taranullius9221 DON'T YOU FARKING DARE claim I said things I didn't say. I never said a damn thing about being able to or not patrol anything off the coast of Northern Australia.
