EITHER Israel is the best Democracy in the middle East is a true statement which means the rest of the middle East is even WORSE than we hear and we should NOT be trading with them and especially NOT sending weapons to them. OR Israel is NOT the best Democracy in the Middle East in which case we should ask "Who is the best Democracy in the Middle East and can we do business with them?" A couple of years ago renowned international Chef Yotam Ottolenghi (as part of his series on the Mediterranean) did a show in Israel and he went (as an openly gay man) to BOTH Jewish and Muslim restaurants and went to the homes of the chefs & cooks of those restaurants. He made a point during that show of saying there's been a lot of bad press regarding what happens Israel BUT FOR many of the population its just NOT TRUE. He showed just how cosmopolitan of a society was present and active. That was only a few years ago and the comparison to the current state of affairs in Israel just goes to show that if you DO NOT take care of your society, then you leave yourselves open to radical populists pandering to minorities. IF those populists gain control then your nation can quickly devolve. That's the problem with populists. To deliver on their promises they often have to break a lot of things and it DOES NOT MATTER if the populists are from the Radical Left or Radical Right - they break things.
