You make a good nuanced point. I think this was a pretty ordinary interview with next to zero pushback. To single out 1 film which had a number of pretty bad scenes of how hard the whole mess was. In Saving Private Ryan. Right at the start the beach landing was horrific. They opened the ramps on some of those landing craft and the machine guns just slaughtered them all before they could take a step. Not long after they made their way up the beach and over the top there's a short scene where German soldiers surrender and with both arms in the air the Americans simply shoot them. Then there's the one young American machine gunned when they storm the Radio station. Then Vin Diesel gets shot by the sniper. Then a bunch of them get blown up trying to plant sticky bombs on the Tiger Tank. Then a bunch get massacred by the small auto cannon. And then there's the fact most of them died in the final battle. How are all these things glorifying that generation. Band of Brothers and the Pacific were great series that showed a lot of the issues that people faced and a lot of it was damn ugly stuff. I think she's written an anti-war book and I'd agree Hollywood has whitewashed the War but the examples she is giving don't actually fit her message. If she'd picked on some of the other Hollywood films, like the recent film Midway which was just awful, she'd be a lot more convincing.

@EnigmaHood I largely agree with most of your comment, but if we are going to talk PERSPECTIVE then SPR didn't glamourise war anywhere near as much as what Hollywood has done in the past or continues to do - note Top Gun and its sequel or many other recent films as examples. Also it at least showed Americans willing to commit war crimes. For instance towards the end of the beach landing there are Germans fleeing the bunkers and they get caught in a trench. They stop, put their hands up and surrender, The Americans simply shoot them anyway. By CURRENT standards that's a war crime and is one of the VERY FEW TIMES any major Hollywood film has shown that. Also on the glamourising of War - How is Vin Diesel lying in the street bleeding to death asking for help and holding a letter he wrote to his father asking to make sure his father gets it glamourising anything? - How is any of the others in Tom Hanks troop dying glamourising anything? You're right its called PERSPECTIVE.

@EnigmaHood Yeah I know how to read. Do you know how to NOT BE A SELF RIGHTEOUS PIECE OF SHlT? Or Do I need to add arrogant and pedantic on top of that?
