  1. I'm Australian but went to college in America and know that part of British-American History. And the Pilgrim fathers are just like you describe. I remember reading an article comparing the Brits who settled Australia and the Brits who were the Pilgrim fathers on the Mayflower. He described the Pilgrims as "religious zealots who's only intent was to make more rules on top of the rules they already had." He described Australia as being settled by the "original party animals." but that's only 1/2 true. So the Pilgrim fathers were basically the same sort of delusional fanatics that we see today. Its sort of why Americans talk a lot less about them compared to the Founding Fathers who wrote the constitution.
