I'm Australian and as an outside observer I have a question for you: How did American get to the point where over 70 million people BELIEVED in NOTHING, so that they were so easily fooled by Trump? The best commentators are NOT describing Trump as a disease but as a symptom of a larger problem. Among America's elite there's a view that everyone else is a problem that they have to manage and so we are clear we have the same problem in Australia. If you ever go and look at the core ideology of neo-conservative thought its based on the idea that democracy will fail because people will vote for what's best in their best interest NOT what's best for society. I first heard about that during a documentary (~20years ago) comparing the Al Qaeda leadership to the American Neo-con leadership AND BOTH shared this common belief that democracy CANNOT WORK because people are fundamentally selfish. There was a great comment Jessica Tarlov made about this recently. She reiterated what Trump supporter had said. "Yes we know Trump's crazy but crazy doesn't look down on me." She then explained this is the problem that America's elite has. They look down on everyone else and see them as problems to be managed. As I said at the start, I'm Australian and YES we have the same problem here in Australia. Its just not as obvious.
