AUSTRALIAN HERE: (and I say this as a friend) The United States of America has NEVER Given a damn about human rights or international justice UNLESS IT WAS CONVENIENT AT THE TIME and to be fair US America's allies have backed it on many of the occasions it has stomped all over the basic rules it promotes. I cringe EVERY time I hear one of our politicians or journalists mention the phrase "rules based order" when it comes to countries like Russia. Every so often someone asks what they mean by "Rules based order" and it then goes from BULLSHlT to Embarrassing BULLSHIT in less than a heart beat. You Americans really do need to get over your view of yourselves on the World stage and don't panic so do a lot of other countries including Australia. In recent years we got a several "Wake TF Ups" from the small nations in the Pacific that we have taken for granted. Repairing that damage will take us at least a decade. Fixing America's reputation is actually going to be the single hardest task of the next POTUS whether its Kamala or someone else AND ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN QUICKLY. Unfortunately, thanks to the internet we can now see all of America's faults both internally and externally.

@notaspeck6104 Absolutely. 2 of the things that annoy me because at the very least we don't have answers: 1) John Howard is a lawyer (as are many others in federal parliament) and I find it damn hard to think that he never did a class in international law and as such WHEN did he know the invasion of Iraq was ILLEGAL under International Law? I keep hearing that we prescribe to the "Rules Based Order" but what is that exactly and what treaties and laws are we obliged to abide by? 2) There's footage the ABC showed of one of the "wrongful deaths" in Afghanistan. You can hear the stress in the Australian Soldiers voice. He's all but out of control with stress and its ugly. It has NOT come out just how stressed those guys were due to the time they spent there. Was what happened wrong? YES, but why were our soldiers there for so long that they ended up so stressed they did those things?

@cobra8888 EXACTLY and its ingrained into America society to such an extent that its become normalised. Look at how the GOP treat the Democrats. When we do "it" its fine. When you do "it" you are an enemy of humanity and we must destroy you. Here's an example from history. Bill Clinton got caught getting blown by Monica Lewinski. It was uncovered by SPECIAL COUNSEL Ken Star who went OUTSIDE his original scope which was to investigate the Clinton's Whitewater real estate deal. The IMPEACHED CLINTON for lying about getting blown and find him GUILTY. Meanwhile at the same time House Speaker (technically the 3rd most powerful politician on the planet) Newt Gingrich gets caught accepting $5 Million from Rupert Murdoch while having an affair with one of his staff and that doesn't even get investigated and even to this day he flips it all off as nothing. On the flip side of that: Here's an interesting fact about Jack Smith the guy trying to get Trump into court over the documents. From for the 4+ years BEFORE being assigned as Special Counsel to investigate Trump's documents case he worked for the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in the Hague prosecuting War Crimes from the Kosovo War. Now the Kosovo Specialist Chambers are NOT specifically part of the International Criminal Court (ICC or ICCt) but Jack Smith operated as a Chief Prosecutor in a court prosecuting people from another country. The insanity of that is that All American Service personnel are protected from being similarly prosecuted by international courts (like the ICC) when President George W. Bush signed the American Service-Members' Protection Act, (informally referred to as The Hague Invasion Act) in 2002.
