  1. I'm an aerospace engineer who works in industrial control systems and automation. After graduating I did several years of postgraduate research and I can tell from FIRST HAND experience that the entire research industry has serious issues with funding. MOST people are honest and work their guts out doing good work, but then there are those who are outright fraudsters. There's several YouTube channels dedicated to exposing that sort of stuff. I see and hear so much nonsense in engineering reporting it hard not to scream at times. This whole lab leak saga is just as bad maybe worse. The point is that science and scientists aren't 100% pure and honest. There's buckets of fraud going on and many honest people get run out of the research industries for speaking out. There's a lot been said about things going on in virology and pathogen research that is not being publicly discussed because almost every public discussion outlets - Left, Right or Centre are being delivered from a POLITICAL view with a POLITICAL narrative. Its why we've not gotten to the bottom of this mess. Anytime someone does try and say anything sensible there's some clown with a political narrative jumping in screaming and ranting. I see the same happening in engineering topics. As an aerospace engineer I can tell you most of the discussions about hypersonic missiles and Chinese Space lasers are complete nonsense BUT THEN the media is reporting POLITICAL NARRATIVE not facts.
