  2. I'm an Australian aerospace engineer who did his degree at U. of Illinois in the late 80s. I was there when the Plato system was running and even used it. I was there when we go the first CRAY supercomputers but that was reserved for the postgrads. I just had to play with normal mainframes. In my final year we even got to play with what they then called an "Expert System" which was one of the fore runners of todays Ai. I am still stunned by what we have let the IT industry get away with. No matter how many times they screw up or fail the media just seem to let them get pass after pass. What really worries me is that at some point we'll put so much faith in this stuff we'll forget how dangerous outcomes from bad assumptions can be and we'll have a disaster there's no coming back from.
