  1. I'm an Australian Aerospace engineer and what you have highlighted is a basic government practice that we all did during the post WW2 era and that's variety of design and development. Look at the American X-planes for a great example. Part of the economic argument was employment and IT STILL IS TODAY. In fact right now Australia is on this idiotic military spend and the justification is employment. Some of the contracts we are doing are so absurd in terms of the spending its barely comprehensible that ANYONE THINGS they are worthwhile at those prices. Yet on every announcement theirs a claim of jobs. The craziest thing is that we have people claiming the solution to our variation of the energy crisis is nuclear, BUT NONE of those proponents will say what type BUT they are claiming its a quick fix. I think nuclear will be a PART of our LONG TERM solution. Maybe around 20% of the baseload simply because nuclear is great for base load BUT ITS NOT A QUICK FIX. Large scale units like Hinckley Point C take at least 10 years and SMRs wont be available until at least 2035 and that's what companies like Rolls Royce are saying.
