  1. The stupidity of the McKinsey estimate is a story on the BBC. Its titled "Inside the hidden carbon plant pulling CO2 from thin air | BBC News" and can be found by searching "bbc direct carbon capture" and its one of the first few links. Its about a new plant being trialed that aims to pull CO2 from the air using geothermal energy at an initial cost at $1000/ton with a scaled up cost of $300/ton. AT $100/Ton the 2.5 Trillion tons of excess CO2 in the atmosphere right now will cost $250 Trillion. HOWEVER with the current rates of CO2 being pumped out suck a system would need to handle 3.5 Trillion tons and eventually 4.5 Trillion tons. So even if they do scale up and get their costs down to $300/ton we are talking about costs in the $$$$QUADRILLION range not $Trillion range.
