  2. Dude the 50 years thing comes from the odd combination that was the Space Shuttle. On one hand it was an incredible success in that they made a reusable spaceplane work. On the other hand it consumed so many resources (both in money and people) to operate that it starved other programs. Some of those programs still haven't been completed and are flight ready - like the next gen space suit.
