@kevinjones6328 Yeah its what happens when journalists shut up and let experts talk. As far as rethinking goes the entire Developed World is about to have a massive rethink on a whole lot of stuff. I have been listening to Peter Zeihan recently and he's a geo-political strategist who's very good at demographics. He's pointed out one of the main factors on why Russia invaded. Like most of the developed world they have a shortage of 20-25 year olds. It got too expensive to have kids in the 90s. Go look here and click on any country and scroll down to their population pyramid. I just checked Australia, UK, Canada, America, Russia, China and India. Look at how some taper at the bottom but check the massive dents at 20 for some. https://worldpopulationreview.com/countries That's happened because there were recessions in the West and the Soviet collapse. People just couldn't afford families. The Russian military is shrinking because there's not enough 18-20 year olds. If they didn't invade Ukraine now they wouldn't be able to in 5 years. Its the same for China and Taiwan. 30 year olds don't like fighting wars they want jobs and families. Russia can't rebuild its military unless its a high tech military like America's is and they've never done that EVER. Their military has always been based around having more tanks, more planes and more men. To go high tech they need engineers and skilled technicians BUT like every country in the developed world there's a shortage of those because they are too expensive to train according to economists. That's why western economists moved all the manufacturing to China. It wasn't just cheaper labor it was also a massive cost saving in training and paying technical people. Go to any university or tech college and engineers and technicians cost at least twice as much to train. They need labs and workshops and those are expensive to buy, own and maintain. All this BS economics (Thatcherism, Reaganomics, etc.) that's rules our lives for almost 40+ years is about to come crashing down around us and there is no easy fix because 20 year olds take 20years and 9 months to make.

@kevinjones6328 Yeah who's going to forget the 40km long convoy that ran out of fuel and then ran out of food. I don't think the current guided munitions are coming in much faster than anything previously. What they are coming in with is accuracy. Did you see that BBC video showing the accuracy from 40km? The best description I have heard is that the Russians have the best military for fighting a 20th century war but unfortunately is the 21st century and a bunch of tech geeks with access to a toy store are a serious threat.

@Winters004 That's a great point. There was the USS Stark incident where the defense systems didn't pick-up the incoming Exocets. Then there's the Russian Cruiser Moskva and there's reports that its defense system either failed or was not even turned on. That's always been an issue with RADAR. When it works is great and when it doesn't it just lets everyone know exactly where you are.

News Flash: Every government in history has exaggerated the capability of their military systems in some form or other. Its called propaganda and its been done for at least 4,500 years. As has been said time and time again: "The first casualty of war is the truth!" Remember how a few weeks ago there was the hyped up story about the "Ghost of Kiev" who was a fighter pilot who had shot done a bunch of Soviet jets. It was later found out to be total BS. We've had all sorts of social media stories that turned out to be using stock footage from years ago. This is one of the few stories and analysis I have seen lately that's credible because he's NOT bragging about the HIMARS he's just explaining the difference between it and other systems. The only 2 truths we can be absolutely guaranteed about right now is that the Ukrainian people are suffering and Russian mothers are burying their sons if they're lucky.

@kevinjones6328 By chance did you see this from the BBC? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTQ5ZGHV9Zs Note the footage about 2:30 in showing how accurate these guided artillery shells are. I remember footage from around the time of the Falklands where the Brits showed a system capable of hitting artillery shells. I think one of the things with HIMARS is the missiles DON'T fly predictable ballistic flight paths as way to avoid defense systems. I'm an aerospace engineer and I get the distinct impression that these days if you make even the slightest mistake or delay in responding your dead. Things now happen so fast and with such precision there's no time for adjustments or discussions.
