There's a great example here on YT in one of the rare TEDx talks by an actual AI developer. They tried to get an AI to recognise fish. So they kept showing the AI pictures of people holding up fish. When the AI failed to learn how to identify fish as opposed to other animals they found what it did recognise as fish were the BACKs of people's hands. When they went back and checked the photos the AI was trained on the photos with fish were all photos of people holding up fish and the MOST CONSISTENT recognisable item in the photos were the backs of the hands of the people holding up the fish. This is one of the great lessons regarding these Large Language Models and other AI. What they actually do is AVERAGE OUT THE DATA SET THEY ARE TRAINED ON by looking for common features and patterns. This is one reason why ChatGPT has been called a Stochastic Parrot because its just a means to average out the information it has access to (which is the Stochastic Part) and then just puts the result out without any real though to what its doing (which is the Parrot Part). Remember parrots just respond to a stimulus and then speak without any understanding. That's why they call ChatGPT a Stochastic Parrot.
