@Jaredscott89 Sorry but bullshit. The costs are idiotic. They are also irrelevant as is the screaming and yelling about nuclear powered subs versus conventional. The real issue is the case for 12. Here's the link toe the actual white paper. Look for paragraphs 8.39 & 8.40. https://www.defence.gov.au/whitepaper/2009/ $90 Billion and the justification is WHAT EXACTLY. Nobody is asking how we expect to crew 12 subs when we can only just crew 4 and the new subs have a bigger crew. Its all bullshit and proves that in Australia military spending is a sacred cow that must not be questioned. We could easily save over $60 billion by simply buying 12 Barracudas of exactly the same spec as the French Government.

You're absolutely right on the details and costs. They are all available on places like Wikipedia. The French Government only paid $2 Billion Australian for each of their Barracuda's which are nuclear powered and should cost more than a Diesel/Electric. So how are ours going to cost almost 4 times as much. BUT WTF has Malcom Turnbull got to do with any of this? He's been out of politics for several years. The White paper this need for 12 subs was based on was before his time.
