What do you think caused the French, Russian and Chinese Revolutions or the English Civil War that Cromwell led. What about the American Revolution? Taxes might not have been the reason but they were one of the triggers. Anytime the tiny minority have started hoarding their wealth it has lead to bad place. I wonder what all those Trump supporters will do when they finally realise the whole "stop the steal" was actually about getting them to pay off his campaign debts. He suckered them for over $200,000,000 during a pandemic when millions had lost their jobs. Its just got reported he made over $1.6billlion in the last 4 years while Jared & Ivanka made over $400million. If he's so rich why did he need donations at all? Of all the things that destroy empires and nations nothing is as effective as greed combined with raging mobs ready to tear everything apart and America has both.
