Actually as an Australian I find the fact that an American thinks our Army made a sensible decision instead of just buying "the American Thing" like we did with various jets (F35🤔) and other stuff as genuine WTF moment. As an example of Australian Military logic I have this. A number of years back I worked with a young engineer who'd served in both Afghanistan and Iraq in the Australian Army. He got a phone call one day asking that he return a pile of money. The reason was someone had re-classified his time as not being in a "combat zone" and that he was ineligible for the extra pay that came from being in a combat zone. They clamed because he was just an engineer working in a compound fixing or modifying vehicles and equipment to suit rather than serving in a combat unit that he wasn't in a combat zone. From memory I think he went back to his commanding officer and eventually got it sorted out. Our military doesn't have a great reputation for logical thinking. So hearing an American say we made a good choice is a head scratcher.
