  1. What did anyone actually expect. Australian has long standing ties to America. We are one of 2 countries (Britain is the other) that hosts one of their major communications hubs - Pine Gap. There are so many idiots who get worried that Australia is a target. What do they expect when one of America's main communication hubs has been here for decades. If the Chinese (or Russia) ever wanted to take on America then Pine Gap becomes a very high priority target.

  2.  @petersinclair3997  I know that and anyone who understands the significance of those bases knows that. You clearly know their significance which means you also understand they are first strike communications targets. This is something the Chinese don't seem to understand about the US-Australia relationship or at least they give that impression. The problem I see is too many people in Oz take the US-Australia thing for granted or simply don't understand it at all. Possibly its because the millennials and zoomers are fairly clueless while older people have just forgotten. Yes there was Iraq and Afghanistan but they weren't WW2, Korea or Vietnam. My bet is if you asked most Australians what Pine Gap is they would think you talking about something you use at home to fill gaps in walls.
