  1. But what is your definition of "true democracy." I did a few classes in classical civilizations in college as part of a humanities sequence. Ancient Greece (particularly Athens - the birth place of democracy) was not even close to being fair but they elected their leaders. Of note Russia, even during the Soviet era, still had elections. Iraq under Saddam Hussein had elections. Democracy is fundamentally where leaders are chosen by a vote. There's nothing in it fundamentally that says it has to be fair or equal or just.
