@obelic71 You and others are right, but more than anything it depends on the specifications. Don't forget there are plenty of power stations that have been decommissioned in recent years. I work in the Australian mining sector and we reuse power transformers all the time and they come from all sorts of places. Remember they are basically a big lump of iron and copper than has no moving parts. The only thing that wears out are the cooling fans. If you're unlucky the oil might be contaminated, but even that/s not much of a problem. If there's a potential big problem it will be in the switch gear. Getting that stuff might not be so hard but you need a specific skill set to install and commission that stuff. I work in control systems and automation so I'm only the periphery of that stuff. The people who do it tend to be quite specialised. They have all sorts of sayings but one of my favorites is: "High voltage takes no prisoners."
