Thanks as an aerospace engineer I HATE clowns who don't go and ask before they make an ass out of themselves. Here's the basic problems of trying to militarise the moon (with current and foreseeable technology) 1) Its going to cost 100s of billions of dollars. The ISS cost $120 Billion to construct and has so far cost around another $80 Billion to maintain and that's only been possible by sharing those costs among nations. 2) If you did build a military base on the moon then everyone will know because they'll all see the rockets launch and be able to track them from the telemetry. Even if the telemetry is encoded to such an extent it cannot be decoded everyone will still know where the transmission point is coming from and therefore still be able to track it. 3) If you did launch a weapon from the moon it will take 3 days for it to reach Earth giving everyone plenty of time to deal with it. Because everyone knows where you are (see item 2) then they'll know where to be watching as well. As for resources, the only known resource on the moon that's valuable enough for a viable base is Helium-3 and that's only valuable if there are fusion reactors capable of using Helium-3 and no commercial fusion reactor of any type yet exists let alone one built for Helium-3.

As usual with issues that matter - NO WHERE.

I'm Australian and we've had a problem with illegal Indonesian fishing in our waters for decades. Mind you we've also had huge problems with illegal fishing boats from China, Japan and South Africa as well. And then there are our own homegrown issues with environmental vandalism and our companies acting like shit in other countries including Indonesia (like Santos).

@123thesophster You absolutely right on the production of meat over vegetation for food. The productivity per square meter is barely worth comparing. Across the world companies like McDonalds, Monsanto,.... etc. have a lot to answer for in terms of how they have affected agriculture. They do it either by how they source their raw food or by how they produce it or affecting how others produce it. The mismanagement of water has been one of the incredible trademarks of governments of all types. In America just look at the Colorado River that no longer even flows into Mexico let alone reaches the sea. In Russia there is the disaster of the Aral Sea, that even if it can be recovered will take decades if not a century (or more). In China there's the Yongding, which was the main water supply for Beijing for centuries and has not flowed through Beijing for over 30 years because of upstream irrigation schemes. I'm Australian and we are on the verge of collapsing our entire main eastern river system the Murry-Darling and that is purely from unbelievably bad management. Its so bad it borders on treason.

@brokenrecord4069 Prove what????

@brokenrecord4069 I wasn't sure if it was still there. If China (or anyone else) tried to put a base on the moon the US could just do another version of LRO or an upgraded one to watch what's going on. So I can barely believe people are still trying to make this idiotic claim. Its as dumb as the people who think there's already a force of space marines on a secret American space station just waiting to be dropped somewhere. Yeah look at how much help people need just walking after being weightless for a few months. It seems like there's no end to how stupid the garbage media people produce can be OR the number of people who take it as gospel.

No so easy. There are massive parts of China where you cant grow anything, because its desert. I'm Australian and our mainland is close in size to mainland America. They have 330 million we have 25 and that simply because most of our country is simply not suitable for agriculture. What is coming is a war for food or water or both and its going to get very, very, ugly.
